Pulled Pork in the Oven v/s Pulled Pork in Slow Cooker

Pulled pork can be made in a slow cooker as well and mind you it is supremely delicious- tender, juice and all that. Besides, the other advantage is that, you can leave the meat, spices and all at once in the slow cooker and forget about it unless it is done.

The only downside is that a slow cooker (As its name suggests) takes very long to cook pulled pork. It takes at least 5 hours more than the oven. Therefore, we recommend you use an oven to cook pulled pork. Besides, in a slow cooker, you also don’t get the crispy burnt ends to relish. (Burnt Ends are the blackened edges of meat that result as a coagulation of fat and caramelizing sauces).

Searing the Meat

Even though it is not absolutely necessary to sear your meat, we recommend doing that. Searing is the way through which you can get burnt ends and we all know how much we love burnt ends. You can sear your meat in a big casserole dish or a large plate with edges.

Beer: Yay or Nay?

Next important question that pops up is how important is beer in making pulled pork. You can skip adding beer if you have medical (or personal) reasons but then you will need an alternative like apple cider. Beer is an important ingredient that helps in keeping the meat moist, and adds a juicy, caramelised flavour to pork.

Dishes of Pulled Pork

There are several dishes that can be made with pulled pork. You can use it as a filling in burgers and drool over the taste. Other options include tacos with a side of pineapple slaw, wraps with dips, pulled pork crescent rings, BBQ Shepherd’s Pie and more.
